E. Pre-selection Home Visit
To ensure we provide the most effective support for beneficiaries' academic aspirations, our sponsorship and scholarship program incorporates pre-selection home visits. These visits allow our trained social workers to gain a deeper understanding of home environment, family's role in education, and any potential academic or personal challenges a potential beneficiary might encounter. Conducted with sensitivity and respect for cultural background, this information is crucial in tailoring our assistance programs and resources to specific needs. Ultimately, these pre-selection visits empower us to match potential beneficiaries with the most impactful support system, maximizing their chances of achieving academic success.
1. Holistic Assessment: the visit will be an opportunity to:
- Assess the applicant's environment, and see if the home environment supports their academic goals (quiet study space, internet access, etc.)
- Gauge the applicant's motivation, to meet the family and discuss their commitment to the student's education.
- Identify potential challenges: Understand any obstacles the student might face and explore ways to support them.
2. Home Visit Process:
Pre-Visit Communication
- Inform applicants about the purpose of the home visit – focus on its role in understanding their background and supporting their success.
- Offer flexibility in scheduling to accommodate the applicant's family.
- Provide contact information for the social worker in case of questions or concerns.
During the Visit
- Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Focus on open conversation with both the applicant and their family.
- Explain how the information gathered will be used to tailor support services (if applicable).
Post-Visit Communication
- Regardless of the outcome, offer feedback to the applicant within a reasonable timeframe.
- If disqualification is necessary, explain the reasons clearly and empathetically. Offer alternative resources if possible.
3. Benefits of Home Visit
- Builds trust: A well-conducted home visit can build trust between the applicant, their family, and the foundation.
- Comprehensive assessment: It provides a more complete picture of the applicant's situation, enabling better support.
- Improved student success: By understanding challenges, the foundation can offer targeted assistance for the student to thrive.
F. Orientation and Contract Signing
- Successful candidates will receive an SMS or Messenger notification with details of the orientation program and contract signing.
- Attendance at the orientation is mandatory. During this session, scholarship terms, expectations, and benefits will be discussed.
- Following the orientation, scholars will sign the scholarship contract which outlines the obligations of both the scholar and EFGF.
